Save the planet and protect wildlife, one action at a time

While illegal trading and poaching continue to be an important part of WildAid’s work, these are no longer the greatest threat to wildlife – climate change is. Iconic species around the world and biodiversity in general are all threatened by both the causes (like deforestation) and impacts (like droughts) of climate change. And these threats continue to grow.

In 2019, the world emitted nearly 50 gigatons of greenhouse gasses with the two highest-emitting nations – China and the United States – responsible for 24% and 11% of that total respectively. Fortunately, your choices can make a difference for both the planet and the wildlife that depends on it. Individual actions in energy use, diet, plastics, transportation and more have the potential to reduce emissions by 40 to 70 percent by 2050. That is why WildAid climate communication campaigns aim to make sustainable living approachable and the default behavior for consumers in the United States and China.

  • 40-70%
Individual behavior changes have the potential to reduce emissions by 40-70% by 2050.
  • 10,967
Number of threatened species on the IUCN Red List affected by climate change.
  • 15%
Global transportation and meat production are both responsible for approximately 15% of total emissions.

Making an impact

WildAid harnesses its proven communication strategies, strong media network, and corporate and governmental partnerships to empower individuals in China and the United States to live sustainable, low-carbon lifestyles. With high-end advertising, extensive pro bono distribution, and celebrity ambassador engagement, our messages on energy use, diet, plastic, and transportation reach hundreds of millions of consumers every year, motivating tens of millions to make more sustainable choices.

In 2021, China and the United States pledged to work closely to accelerate climate action this decade. By 2030, China has pledged to peak its emissions while the US has committed to cutting its emissions in half. Achieving these goals will require significant changes by governments, corporations and individuals together. WildAid’s expertise is communicating complicated environmental topics to you, the individual consumer, and helping you be part of the solution. Solving climate change will require an “all of the above” approach and just as WildAid has found its role, we hope to help you find yours.
